Scholarships

The Illinois Mining Institute enthusiastically supports the educational endeavors of students who are interested in pursuing a career in the mining industry. Since 1941, the Institute has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving college and university students.

Awards

Scholarships are awarded in the fall semester every year. Annual award amounts are considered for up to $1,000 for students pursuing a 4-year degree at a university, and up to $500 for students attending a community college.  These amounts will increase yearly for repeat recipients with a maximum of 3 years eligibility.

Criteria

The Scholarship Criteria requires students to be Illinois residents and maintain a certain grade point average. Depending on the 2 or 4-year degree criteria, students must have a strong interest in mining, mining engineering, or related field. University students must also participate in a summer work program in the mining industry.

Colleges and Universities

Some of the finest college and universities in the mid-west who offer mining-related programs participate in the scholarship program. Students who meet the scholarship criteria are recommended by college and university faculty. Each year, the IMI and their educational partners collaborate to ensure the scholarship program is administered equitably to deserving students.
